Frequently Asked Questions
What is the time commitment of a site rep?
The time commitment of a site rep depends on the week and the needs of the site. An approximate of your commitment includes:
Daily
- 5-10 minutes worth of conversations with your site contacts to check in and get a feel for their needs.
Weekly
- 10 minute site meetings where you will share information from rep council meetings and get input from staff.
- 30 minute admin meeting where you will meet with your administrator to check in with how things are going at your site.
Monthly
- 1 hour monthly rep council meetings where you will share input from your site and receive information about events within our union to share back with your site.
What are the roles of a site rep?
A site rep is the most important role of the union. Site reps serve as the lifeline of the union. They are the connection between leadership and the leadership team. Site reps help with collecting input from sites that influence the decisions of the leadership team including the bargaining team.
Site reps are also available for the members of their sites as a resource for support throughout their work day. Site reps are trusted members of their school site and are some of our best educators because they want what's best for every member at their site.
Why do we need site reps?
KEA needs site reps because they are essential in ensuring that all our members are heard and represented. They act as a go-between between members and leadership, they provide union support, and want what is best for the site as a whole.
How do I become a site rep?
Site reps must be elected by their site. If you are interested in being one please let your site know. It is best practice if Site Reps are elected using blind paper ballots. Each site gets 1 site rep for every 10 members. Site reps are typically elected at the beginning of the school year but can be elected the previous spring.. But elections can he held at any time as long.
Can I learn more before becoming a site rep?
YES!
There are multiple opportunities to attend our site rep level 1 training! This training gives you the bare bones of becoming a site rep and provides the tools to be successful at your site. The training is open to ALL KEA members, so feel free to join and get your feet wet! Further trainings are also available after the completion of Level 1.
