Join A Committee
Being part of a committee is a great way to get involved in your union without too much time or dedication. By joining a committee, you'll also get the chance to collaborate with other members and contribute your unique skills and expertise towards achieving our common goals. Don't wait until we have a big issue to get involved, join a committee now and help make our union stronger and more effective to prevent big issues in the first place. Committee members work as a team to help spread the workload of running our union. We all have full work loads, but if we all contribute a little bit and we can get a whole lot done.
Bargaining Team
Time Commitment: Varies depending on negotiating priorities
The Bargaining Team gets release time for negotiations and prep for negotiations. But there is sometimes a need to spend a little time outside of these days to research, meet together, or attend trainings. You don't need any special skills to be a negotiator. Your knowledge of your position and your background as an educator is all you need.
Membership Engagement Committee
Time Commitment: 1 hour a month
For a union to function well it is important to have our membership engaged in their union. When members refer to "KEA" as a separate entity from themselves they need to be engaged in their union. There are a few large events to plan which is much easier as a team, but we hope to host smaller events more regularly, but it would take teamwork to organize these small events.
Organizing Committee
Time Commitment: 1 hour a month
Sometimes we need to organize to support our negotiating team. Organizing events can range from encouraging members to wear their KEA shirt to attending a board meeting or carrying picket signs to get our message out. Our organizing committee also plans our Meet the Candidates Night during school board elections and runs our KEA elections and TA votes.
Grievance Committee
Time Commitment: 1 hour a month
What might you do as part of the KEA grievance team?
- Support your colleagues by taking notes and providing information.
- Help review and resolve differences and disputes in a timely manner.
- Strengthen your connections with everyone in our district!
This role does not require a lot of time, and every minute will be well spent.
If you're thinking about getting involved, please do - we need you!
